Symptom
You want to test your website before it goes public. You do not want to register a domain name for it.
Solution
In your webspace controlpanel you have a “preview” link for each domain. When you click on that link, the website will open in a special URL in your web browser, e.g.
http://your-domain.com.123-201-123-234.hostname.bitpalast.net/
This URL is only an example. Please click on the preview link to see your individual URL. This URL works even if you have not registered a domain name for your website yet. You can test your website completely without registering a domain name.
Some websites, e.g. Wordpress, define a specific URL in their configuraton. If you try to test a Wordpress website by the preview function, Wordpress will forward all links on the page to their predefined URL, because it is using static links. For that reason it is not possible to test Wordpress websites with the preview link. As long as you are only using relative links in your website, you can access all pages through the preview URL.
